To be prepared, riders need to have with them a patch kit or extra tubes. It is very common for riders to have problem of punctures regularly. I get punctures here and there even though I ride with thick tubes, tire lines and Armadillo reinforced tires.

Rob and the Howler course construction team collaborated with some rare topographical maps to create this course. Some trails were connected by us. MTB Action Trips - Campesinos who live and work in the jungle use footpaths to reach their homes. That is why we also used some of those.We came to a part that we could not connect, so we went at it with machetes. And hacked our way through many hundred yards of jungle. However, a couple of our men hacked into a bee's nest. It was a shock to witness them running and screaming - with a gang of bees coming right behind them! It was recollected by Rob. Also count on Howler monkeys cheering you.

Manny Prado's first La Ruta effort back in 2004 resulted in a 44th place finish. He placed 13th in the 2006 event. In the race in 2007, he came in 10th place. He was crowned La Ruta champ in 2009.
