Romantic - Granada NicaraguaGranada Nicaragua, The Great Sultana, - From childhood I have liked this city, and now here I am... visiting almost every weekend. This architectural jewel is personal. I consider to be very romantic... nobody has asked, but my frequent trips to Granada Nicaragua are because of my girlfriend. Margarita and I we have been together a little over a year. Yesterday, while we were walking along the street, we decided to stop for a coffee in a very cozy place, when we both realized that we were the Nicaraguans in the place. We began to feel somewhat strange,surrounded by so many Europeans. Even though Nicaragua is physically closer to North America than Europe, and we were the European settlers of long ago. My girlfriend and I have crossed so many times the city in search of a house or an apartment to rent. But it was somewhat sad to convince us that downtown no longer belongs us, to the Nicaraguans.The real estate agencies have done great business selling this average city, Granada… mainly to Europeans. Already it is no longer the favourite city of the Nicas on Sundays. Everything is more expensive... What!, do I look like a rich American? - It is the most common phrase between the Nicas when protesting by the price of something. Because usually the merchants - in a not official way - support two prices for their products. The city, without a doubt has been rejuvenated.The local governments have invested in its image to attract the tourism and the foreign investment. However, the latter only comes in the shape of factories and real estate developments.
With mystic of twenty colonial catholic temples, several museums with indigenous relics, cultural buildings, and "vitality" of the central park Granada Nicaragua provides greater tourist attractions. The historical center of the city (unlike Managua) is well defined and is the guideline to initiate a tour by the Great Sultana (as popularly Granada is known). It is not possible to deny that the location of the city - next to the Great Lake of Nicaragua – makes for an exquisite climate. A relaxing sun and a cosmopolitan atmosphere... On each corner, carved the stories of the attacks from the pirates to the city… Or stories of the great fire caused by very same General William Walker, are listened to in an accent or a different language.
For the majority of tourists, Granada Nicaragua is a good place. According to them everything "is cheap", is a calm city... Although lately the criminal elements and prostitution have increased with the height of the tourism... part of the price that there is to pay.
