News Nicaragua - For most part of the 20th century, Nicaragua was in turmoil and the news often surrounded around the civil war activities going on in the country. Censorship was imposed on media during the Sandinista period. Although censorship was only for a brief period, the influence of Sandinistas was felt in the media till the 1990s. The news content were highly partisan and sensationalist in character. But after the elections of 1990s, a drastic change was felt in the print and broadcast media. Today, the country has embraced the traditions of media in the other parts of the world and provides independent news. Nicaragua today has several newspapers, television channels, radio stations and Internet sites exclusively dedicated to news and current affairs. Spanish is widely used in almost all forms of media. Websites remain the important source of news in English.
