The exchange rate for the Cordoba/dollars is set by Banco Central; the recent rate is about 18 Cordobas for one dollar. Almost all banks offer currency changing services for tourists at a rate equal to the official rate. However, beware a number of banks will only offer good exchange rates only with the US Dollar and the Nicaragua currency. It is recommended to travel in Nicaragua with American dollars. The main reason behind this is that there is no official exchange for exchanging European money.
